A LOOK AHEAD: JOURNALISM IN 2011
with Joshua Benton, director of the Nieman Journalism Lab at Harvard University
Q&A moderated by Nora Young, host of CBC Radio's Spark
Tuesday, January 18, 6:30 p.m.
Innis Town Hall, Toronto
From print to paywalls to iPads, there are signs both news organizations and their audiences are finally ready to invest in journalism. Meanwhile, new players keep throwing their hats into the ring calling for constant revision of the rules.
It may be too early to anticipate how any of these trends will impact on the industry, but that’s not going to stop us from trying. Join Joshua Benton, director of the Nieman Journalism Lab at Harvard University, and Nora Young, host of CBC Radio's Spark, as they ruminate, anticipate and speculate on what’s in store for journalism in 2011.
WHEN: Tuesday, January 18, Presentation 6:30 p.m. / Reception 8:00 p.m.
WHERE: Innis Town Hall, 2 Sussex Ave.
ABOUT OUR SPEAKER
JOSHUA BENTON is director of the Nieman Journalism Lab, a project of the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University. The lab was launched in 2008 following Joshua's year-long Nieman fellowship as a collaborative attempt to figure out how quality journalism can survive and thrive in the Internet age. Before that, Joshua spent 10 years in newspapers, most recently at The Dallas Morning News. His reports on cheating on standardized tests in the Texas public schools led to the permanent shutdown of a school district and won the Philip Meyer Journalism Award from Investigative Reporters and Editors. He has reported from 10 foreign countries, been a Pew Fellow in International Journalism, and three times been a finalist for the Livingston Award for International Reporting. Follow @NiemanLab
